OVERVIEW
Bethel University is a member of three tuition waiver exchange programs, designed to be used by the dependents of benefits-eligible employees of Bethel, for the completion of their undergraduate degree. They are NOT designed for adult degree completion programs NOR graduate-level programs.
- The Tuition Exchange (TE) is a program made up of approximately 672 member institutions. All eligible tuition waiver applications will be made – provided the internal application deadline is met. It is then up to the receiving institution to approve/deny those requests. Information regarding the TE program can be found at: wwwtuitionexchange.org
.Membership in TE can change so it is advisable to view the most up-to-date list online. Please also note that the benefit rate varies from school to school. The benefit rate, specifically, can be seen thru the school's Institutional Profile, found in Families --> Tuition Exchange School Search.
- The Christian College Consortium (CCC) Dependent Exchange Program is made up of 11 faith-based institutions. (Wheaton College and Messiah College do NOT participate in the program.) The degree of participation varies in some schools from year to year based on several factors at the receiving institution. All eligible tuition waiver applications will be submitted – provided the internal application deadline is met. It is then up to the receiving institution to approve/deny those requests. Information regarding the CCC program can be found at: www.ccconsortium.org/programs/
- The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) Tuition Waiver Exchange Program is made up of approximately 106 faith-based institutions. Each school accepts one to three dependents per class. All eligible tuition waiver applications will be submitted – provided the internal application deadline is met. It is then up to the receiving institution to approve/deny those requests. Information regarding the CCCU program can be found at www.cccu.org/programs-services/
Please be clear that applying for a tuition waiver is a competitive process; the outcome is NOT guaranteed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- I am a benefits-eligible employee, but am new to Bethel. Can I make a tuition waiver application?
An employee needs to have had continuous benefits-eligibility for at least two years by the time their dependent would start at the receiving institution. Per the tuition benefit policy, years of full-time service at a comparable institution of higher education immediately prior to employment at Bethel are added to service at Bethel. - How do these tuition waiver exchange programs mesh with regular admissions processes?
Acceptance procedures for all three tuition waiver exchange programs assume that your dependent is going or has gone through the receiving institution’s regular admissions process and has been, or will be, accepted at the institution they would like to attend. You do NOT have to wait until your dependent has been accepted at an institution to begin the application process. - If after submitting an internal application for a tuition waiver my dependent decides that they do not want to attend another school – what should I do? What should I do if my dependent has attended another institution using a tuition waiver and now no longer wishes to attend that institution?
In both cases, please notify Tonia Rucker in the Office of the Provost via email (t-rucker@bethel.edu) if you no longer wish to pursue / continue a tuition waiver for your dependent. - My dependent wants to attend Bethel University. Can you point me to that process? Benefits-eligible employees and their spouses and dependent children are eligible for the tuition benefit at Bethel University. The policy and process for applying for the tuition benefit is available in the Employee Handbook in Confluence at: https://confluence.bethel.edu/x/sAGn.
If you have questions regarding any of the tuition waiver exchange programs, please contact Tonia Rucker in the Office of the Provost (ext. 6370 or t-rucker@bethel.edu).
