The Student Senate consists of 13 elected officers: president, secretary, senior class representative/vice president, SemPM representative, Marriage and Family Therapy representative, and special interest coordinators (i.e. community life, spiritual life, academics, diversity, international students, and women students). Elections are held in April for the following year. For a copy of the Student Senate Constitution and by-laws, please contact the Coordinator of Assessment, Lori Matchefts (l-matchefts@bethel.edu).

The major purposes of the senate are to promote and serve student interests, to lead in student-desired directions, and to establish and sustain the welfare of the student body. The president is the main liaison between students and administration. The special interest coordinators are responsible for the planning of an integrated and meaningful program of student activities.

Seminary Women

Bethel Seminary is committed to offering women students a supportive setting in which to prepare, both personally and professionally, for Christian ministry. Bethel strives to acknowledge and actively provide for those needs unique to women preparing for ministry through a variety of programs and services specifically designed for women students. Our planning for women students is based on three objectives:

  • To prepare women students to adequately handle the biblical texts relating to the role of women in the church and society;

  • To provide support and encouragement to women students as they face the unique needs and pressures involved in their preparation for and participation in ministry;

  • To provide up-to-date information on the significant issues that face women in our society today.

Throughout the year a number of forums are planned to bring women students together for interaction on a wide variety of topics pertinent to women in ministry. Women clergy of the Twin Cities area are often invited to participate as speakers and resource persons for these sessions. These forums are open to the entire Bethel community to encourage a broader level of interaction on these significant issues.

Bethel Seminary Alumni and the Seminary Alumni Council

The mission of Alumni Relations at Bethel is to cultivate Christ-centered relationships with alumni that motivate and encourage them to be engaged in the mission of Bethel University. Seminary graduates are members of the Bethel Alumni Association, along with graduates of the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Adult & Professional Studies, and the Graduate School. All Seminary graduates are encouraged to stay connected to and support the Seminary through prayer, giving and service.

The Seminary Alumni Council members represent, support and pray for the Seminary and our seminary alumni. They plan and host events geared for seminary alumni, select alumni faculty grant recipients, choose the Seminary Alumnus /Alumnae of the Year and seek to advance the mission of the Seminary through financial support, volunteerism, recruitment and prayer. They also provide input and counsel to the Office of Church Ministries. Alumni interested in serving on the Council are encouraged to contact the Office of Alumni and Family Services at alumni@bethel.edu.
