Understanding Course Visibility in Moodle

Summary

Course access is maintained out of our campus student records system, Banner.  Typically if an instructor is assigned to a course or if a student is enrolled in a course then they are added to the "participant" list in a Moodle course.  However, faculty determine when a course will be made "visible" for student access to a Moodle course site both prior to and after a course.

Step-by-step Written Instructions

Students:

  1. First check to see that you are enrolled in your courses via the student academic tab in BLink.  If you are enrolled then:

    1. If you do not see your course in Moodle, please contact the instructor and ask if they are using Moodle or if they have made the course visible.

    2. If your instructor does not see you in the Moodle Participants list for the course, please contact TLT at ed-tech@bethel.eduwith the course ID and section , (course name and number - BIO199 section 1)

  2. If you are not enrolled in the course, please contact your advisor or the Registrar's Office.

  3. If you would like a course to NOT show up in your course list, please contact the faculty of the course and ask them to "Hide" the course via the course visibility setting.

  4. If you can no longer see a completed course in Moodle, this is a result of the Instructor making the course hidden to students.  Please contact the instructor if you have any questions or need access to the course.  Bethel policy is that students should retrieve any resources they need from a Moodle course site prior to the end of the course and should not expect to be able to access a Moodle course site past the end

Visibility of a course is the responsibility of the Instructor in collaboration with the Department or Program.  Most faculty make courses hidden at the end of the term or the start of the next term.  Some programs require that courses be left visible throughout the entire program or cohort longevity. Questions about visibility should be addressed to the faculty of the course.
