SMART INSTRUCTOR TEACHING STATIONS
All classroom Instructor Teaching stations use an Extron control system. There is a touch panel either to the left of the computer monitor or on a technology cabinet in the corner of the room.
- Press the Power button labeled "Press to begin" icon in the center of the touch panel. This turns on the projector or other main displays.
- When the touch screen indicates, select the device you would like to use for presenting.
(PC = Station desktop computer, Laptop or HDMI = your laptop, Wireless = Airtame)- Make sure your laptop is connected via an HDMI cable or via our wireless presentation "Airtame" system (http://airtame.com/start) where available.
- Volume is controlled by your computer (sound control panel) OR the application volume controls (Example: YouTube or VLC Media Player, etc.)
- When you conclude your class, please press the "Display Off, button and then confirm by pressing "Power Down" on the touch screen. This will shut down all technology except the computer. Please do not power off the computer, which should stay on (or asleep) at all times.
Note: The keyboard and mouse are on a slide-out keyboard tray just below the front top shelf of the cart. The computer is usually a small box located on the second shelf of the cart just below the keyboard tray.
To Play a DVD
You can play DVD's using the Instructor Teaching Station computer or your own laptop.
- One the Instructor Dell Optiplex desktop computer press the button on the CD/DVD tray on the front of the computer, press the disk onto the tray mount, and push in to close the tray.
- Normally inserting the disk will start up VLC player and allow you to play your DVD. If the auto play does not commence, then click on VLC (an orange cone icon on the desktop) and select "Open disc" from the Media menu, click Browse, find the disk (This PC > DVD Drive > click Select Folder), and click Play. If the video is upside down (or other unwanted orientation), in VLC click on the Tools menu, Effects Filters, Video Effects Tab, Geometry Tab, and uncheck or check the "rotate" checkbox. NOTE: Some older DVD types may not play and in this case you would need to play them on a laptop on which you know they will play, or find an updated DVD version.
- VHS tapes can only be played by checking out an HDMI combo player from the Library (or from the ANC238 Storage closet) and connect the player to the HDMI cable used for laptop connections and press the Laptop/HDMI button on the extron control box.
