How to fix a broken link to a file in assignment, forum, etc.

Symptom: Students report that when they click on a link to a file in Moodle they get a message stating they are "not enrolled" in the course.

Cause: The file link is actually to a version of the document in either a template or a previous version of the course.

Fix: Download the linked file that you may be able to access and save it to your desktop or course folder. Then, redo the link as follows:

Step 1: Download file. To do this, click on the link "this worksheet" (see image below) and download the file to your desktop or downloads folder (or right-click and download linked file as to designate where you would like to save the file).

Step 2: Edit the settings for the assignment by clicking on Edit Settings in the Assignment Administration block.

Step 3: Highlight the file link to select it. Then click on the "insert/edit link" tool  in the toolbar.

Step 4: In the Insert/Edit Link dialog click the "Browse repositories" button, locate the file on your local computer, and then click "Upload a File" then "Choose File", and finally click "Upload this file" to close the Insert/Edit Link dialog.

Step 5: Finally click "Save and Return to Course" at the bottom of the page to close the edit settings page and return to your course.  This should now associate the file with the assignment in your course and allow students to access the linked file
