Student Success Advisor Contact Information

Each program has a designated Student Success Advisor (SSA) who serves as the first point of contact for advising and support while you are enrolled in classes. The SSA can assist you with course selection, program planning, and other academic and registration questions. They are also able to provide referrals to a number of other support offices on campus, based on each student's particular needs.

Bethel Library Subject Guides

These guides are designed specifically for each program to help students conduct their research as well as to provide links to commonly used e-books, search engines, reference guides, and web pages. Many of these guides overlap on some of the resources provided, but all contain helpful information for health, medical, and social science students looking for study and research resources.  If you are having trouble finding or accessing certain articles or journals or were wanting help conducting research, the reference librarians are available by appointment, phone, email, and chat.

Other helpful research tools include the Journal of the American Medical Association archives, available through your Bethel library account;

And PubMed, a free search engine for abstracts and full length articles in the field of health, medicine, and life sciences.

LinkedIn Learning

As a Bethel student, you have access to LinkedIn Learning, a database of interactive courses with videos, quizzes, and note-taking features to help track your progress.  While the majority of these courses are geared towards those in the business, marketing, and technology realm, there are many that remain relevant to those entering the health sciences.  Those to the right are simply a sampling of the courses available to students, and some even come with accompanying CEU certifications at no extra cost.

Writing and Study Resources

The health, medical, and social science fields require different writing skills than other fields such as history or literature.  To the right is a list of resources to help you learn more about the expectations regarding tone, content, citation, and vocabulary as well as guides for specific formats you may be assigned to use.

Learning Resources

Many students find it helpful to supplement their coursework with outside resources to help reinforce course content, practice skills, and find alternate explainations for challenging concepts.  If there is a challenging topic that you need help mastering, chances are other students have also found it difficult.  Sometimes the best resources are your classmates, so don't hesitate to reach out to them to see what study tools they found most effective.  These are just a few that other students have found helpful.

A website designed for physicians but incredibly helpful for all in the medical field.  They offer free courses, CE modules, a comprehensive encyclopedia of drugs, diseases, and disorders, a drug interaction checker and pill identifier, sample cases and quizzes, and access to new research in a range of fields.  As they say, it is a “one-stop resource for medical news, clinical reference, and education.”

This site has several interactive courses on EKG, heart sounds, ultrasound, lung sounds, and so forth with quizzes, video, and audio.

While not usually treated as a scholarly source, YouTube has a host of videos, channels, and recorded lecture series that can be a convenient and entertaining supplement to your course material.  Reputable channels like MIT OpenCourseWareYale Courses, or UCLA Health offer both shortened and full-length lectures while other, lesser known channels like Speed Pharmacology or Ninja Nerd Lectures offer shorter, more informal videos on a range of topics.  As with all open-source or user-created material, don't forget to do your research to ensure that you are learning from creditable sources.

Though it is no longer being updated, the Health and Medicine learning track is still available and is a surprisingly comprehensive resource with videos, lectures, and periodic quizzes to maximize the mastery learning course design.  They also offer courses in biology and chemistry that are equally comprehensive.

Initially geared towards medical school students and residents, this site offers both free and paid content that is applicable to all students in the health, medical, and social science fields.  The free videos are accompanied by extensive notes, quizzes, and study guides for those interested in paying or a monthly or yearly subscription.

This site helps you learn about healthcare topics using a mnemonics learning system to turn hard to learn material into narrative form to take advantage of how our brains retain information best.
