Supervisory Responsibilities

In order for Bethel to operate efficiently, it is essential that supervisors carry out their delegated responsibilities in accordance with the organization's goals and objectives. It is the responsibility of an effective supervisor to:

  • Assign and review work; ensure the proper completion of day-to-day work in his or her area of responsibility.
  • Ensure appropriate on-the-job training and employee orientation to the department or work area.
  • Actively promote equal opportunity.
  • Promote safe work practices and conditions.
  • Establish standards and expectations for work performance.
  • Evaluate employees' job performance.
  • Advise and coach employees regarding their performance.
  • Recommend employees for promotions.
  • Suggest or effect disciplinary action.
  • Recommend or select applicants or employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Serve as the primary resource for employees, as well as assist with work-related problems, whenever appropriate.
  • Timely and accurately approve timesheets for all direct reports.
  • Maintain stewardship of Bethel resources including, but not limited to finding ways to reduce and manage labor costs, follow guidelines and employment law regulations, avoid promises of additional compensation outside of base salaries, avoid the use of stipends or other extension of wage.
  • Work with OPC to establish full compliance with all employment and benefit related law.
  • Maintain ethical standards which will reflect favorably upon Bethel.

Almost any action taken concerning employees begins with the recommendation of the supervisor. The responsibilities listed above cover the essential part of a supervisor's duties but are not intended to be exhaustive.
