Network Port Activation Requests

In addition to wireless network access, faculty, staff, and students can request to activate Ethernet ports, if desired. Information on ITS policy for Ethernet ports can be found here: ITS Policy: Providing Ethernet Access in University Buildings. For students, port activations are limited to one port per student.

Accessing the Form

There is a form in the Bethel ITS TOPdesk portal for network port activations. Its description page in TOPdesk is titled Network Jack - Port Activation and the form itself is titled Network Port Activation Request. Click here for the direct link to the form.

  • If the above direct link does not take you to the form, navigate in a web browser to https://bethel.topdesk.net/ and navigate click-by-click through the following menu options that appear:

    • All IT Services

    • Network Infrastructure

    • Network Jack - Port Activation

  • Please read the form description page prior to filling out the request form.

  • Click the blue button titled Network Port Activation Request on the right side of the site to open the form (highlighted in red in the photo below).

Completing the Form

  • Please complete the form to request the activation of an Ethernet port. The following fields are required:

    • Select the checkbox to accept the ITS Ethernet Policy

    • Dorm/building name that the network data jack/port is in

    • Room number in the building where the data/jack port is

    • Ethernet port number, as labeled on network data jack plate in the room

      • If there is no label or it is difficult to tell, please note this in the ticket and if possible, give your best guess as to what the label reads. Attaching a photo of the port and its label is most appreciated for ITS to troubleshoot this. If there are nearby ports within the same room or suite that are labeled, providing these port numbers is also helpful.

    • Type of equipment the requested connection is for (i.e. computer, PS5/Xbox, Amazon Alexa/Fire stick, etc.)

  • The following fields are optional but will be helpful if ITS needs to troubleshoot any potential issues while activating your port:

    • University/College ID#

    • Description of requested location of jack within the room (i.e. living room, bedroom, near desk, etc.)

    • Any additional details/information

    • Attach relevant documents (e.g. photos of the port's wall plate)

  • Other fields to note:

    • Telephone Number is a required field but can remain auto-filled to “651.638.6500” for the ITS Help Desk. Providing a personal contact number is not required.

    • Brief Description is a required field but can remain auto-filled to “Network Port Activation Request”.

Once this request is filled out it will create a ticket that will be assigned to our Network Services team to activate your port. Expected turnaround for activation is a minimum of 2 business days, but is subject to ITS workload. During the first month of the academic year (mid-August through mid-September), port activations may take closer to 1 week to be completed due to staff availability. You will be notified once your port is activated.

Reporting Port Issues to ITS

For technology help, such as issues while submitting this form or to report a problem to ITS, submit a request form in our TOPdesk ticketing system (use the “Log in to Self-Service Portal” option), email us at helpdesk@behel.edu, or call us at 651-638-6500. Wi-Fi service outages can be reported by phone 24/7 and the appropriate staff will be made available to respond. If your Ethernet port is not working after work hours (after completion of the request ticket), please email or leave a voicemail.
