Do Not Disturb in Webex with Evolve IP License

Summary

If you want to enable or disable the Do Not Disturb feature within the Webex app and you have an active phone number serviced in Webex by Bethel's phone vendor, Evolve IP, this article describes the correct way to do so and outlines why the alternate route can create problems.

Activating or Deactivating Do Not Disturb in the Webex desktop app

To Activate

  • With the Webex desktop app open, click the Settings icon (gear/cogwheel) in the bottom-left of the app. This will open the full settings menu.

  • In the left column are tabs of menu options. Near the bottom of the options is one titled Calling, with a phone handset icon. Click this option to open Calling settings.
  • To the right of the column of menu options will be the call settings and a header that reads Additional Call Settings. Click the button directly below the header that is identically titled Additional Call Settings, which will open a smaller pop-up window.
  • The smaller pop-up has 4 expandable menu options: Incoming Calls, Outgoing Calls, Voicemail, and Call Control. To locate the Do Not Disturb settings, expand the first option for Incoming Calls.
  • Within Incoming Calls, there are two adjustable on/off sliders. One for Do Not Disturb and the other for Anonymous Call Rejection. To enable Do Not Disturb, activate the slider into its "on" position (as shown in the photo below).

To Deactivate

  • Follow the Activation steps above, but in the final step, deactivate the slider to return it to its "off" position (as shown in the photo below).

Incorrect Route to Activating Do Not Disturb

The following route does activate Do Not Disturb, but not completely, or in the desired way that will consistently prevent incoming calls from ringing and automatically send them to voicemail. This is more of a status icon to display to other Webex users, such as those seen in other communication apps like Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc. It is a feature much more useful to users that are only using Webex for video or audio calling among other Webex users, not for users receiving incoming phone calls with active phone service in the app.

Therefore, it is not recommended to follow these steps to activate Do Not Disturb when you are using Webex for full calling features. These steps are outlined to describe what is not recommended.

To Activate

  • With the Webex desktop app open, click the profile circle icon in the top-left of the app. This will open a drop-down menu of options directly below the profile circle icon.
  • Click the option titled Availability. This will expand a sub-menu of options to the right of the first menu.
  • Within the sub-menu, there are options for Busy and Do Not Disturb. Click Do Not Disturb. An additional sub-menu will open to the right of the second menu.
  • The third menu will display options for how long you want the Do Not Disturb status to remain active before reverting to Available status. Select the time option you want or choose a custom option by clicking the "Custom..." option at the bottom of the list.
  • After clicking the desired time length, Do Not Disturb will be active. You will see the activity icon change from a green circle to a red circle with a horizontal line through it.

To Deactivate

  • Follow the first two steps in the Activation steps, but in the third step when the sub-menu has opened to the right, there will be an option for Clear. This option will clear the active Do Not Disturb status and return you to an Available status immediately. Click this option.
  • After clicking, Do Not Disturb will deactivate. You will see the activity icon change back from a red circle with a horizontal line through it to a green circle.
