What's New (Moodle 4.5)

In Moodle 4.5, there are some major quality of life updates!

Add an Activity

The Add an Activity option is no longer only at the bottom of each section. With Edit Mode enabled, you can add an activity anywhere by clicking on the small plus icon above or below an existing activity.

Subsections

The Add an Activity option also includes the option to add a subsection. A subsection is a section within the current section. This subsection is collapsible and allows for more organization.

Change to Label

The Label activity is now called Text and Media Area.

Adding External Tools

Adding External Tools no longer shows up in the Activity Chooser when adding an activity. To add an External Tool, click on the More tab at the top, and select LTI External Tools. From the list of External Tools, enable the one you want to add. Once it is enabled, it will show up in the Activity Chooser when adding an activity. By default, all external tool options are toggled off.

Bulk Actions

With Edit Mode enabled, there is now a “Bulk actions” option at the top of the course page. Selecting this option adds checkboxes next to every activity on the left side. You can select multiple boxes or entire sections and perform bulk actions using the options in the footer.

View All Submissions

To view all submissions for an assignment, open the assignment and click on the Submissions tab.

Bulk Actions in Assignments

In the assignment submissions tab, there are checkboxes next to each student on the left side. Selecting boxes will open up bulk actions using the options in the footer.

Change to Textbox Writing Tools

Moodle has changed to TinyMCE for text editing tools. All the options are still there, but they might be under Insert, Format, or Tools.

First and Last Name Filters

The option to filter by First or Last Name is still available but it is not always on display when viewing the gradebook or assignment submissions. It can be found under the “Filter by Name” tab.
