Editing Your Course Site
Summary
Information about the general tools and settings used by instructors to build and design courses in Moodle.
Editing your Moodle Course
The vast majority of editing occurs on the main Moodle page for the course site. To begin editing the main course page, enable Edit mode by toggling Edit mode in the top right corner.
Once Edit mode is enabled, several editing options will become available.Â
All of the options below require Edit mode to be enabled.
Adding Activities or Resources
To add a new activity or resource, click on the "Add an activity or resource" option at the bottom of each section. The activity or resource that is added will be added to the bottom of that section.Â
Editing an Activity or Resource
To edit an existing activity or resource, click on the three vertical dots on the right side. From this new menu:
- Edit Settings will open up the activity settings menu.
- Move is not as efficient as other move options but will move activities to different sections.
- Move right will indent the activity or resource. If an activity is already indented, an option to Move left will bring it back to standard alignment.
- Hide will remove the activity from being seen by students. This also hides that activity from the gradebook.
- Duplicate will create an identical activity or resource. If duplicating an activity, "(copy)" will be added to the end of the title.
- Assign roles is rarely used but allows for special permissions based on roles.Â
- Delete will delete the activity or resource. The activity or resource will then become stored in the recycle bin for 6 weeks.Â
Editing an activity title can be done from the activity settings menu. It can also be done by clicking on the pencil icon next to the activity title.
Moving an Activity or Resource
The easiest way to reorder activities is to click on the activity and drag it to the new location. A small bar will appear to indicate where the activity will land. The actual activity can be clicked and dragged, or the activity within the left activity menu can be clicked and dragged. In both cases, the activity can be dragged into either the main course or the left activity menu.Â
Updating Course Blocks
In the block menu on the right, blocks can be removed by clicking on the gear icon in the top right of each block and choosing delete. Blocks can be added by clicking on Add a block at the very top of the block menu. Blocks can be reordered by clicking on the four arrows and dragging to the new location within the block menu.
