Accommodations Appeal Process

Accommodations Appeal Process

Students who would like to appeal a denied accommodation may do by completing the process below:

Accommodation Appeal Process:

  1. Notice of Intent to Appeal
Within 24 hours of the denial notification, the student must provide a written notice to OARS by responding to the denial email with their intent to appeal. If OARS does not receive notice of the appeal intent within this timeframe, it will be assumed that the student accepts the accommodation decision.

  1. Submission of Appeal Letter
Within 14 business days of the denial email, the student must submit a written letter of appeal to OARS.

  • The appeal letter must be written by the student and should clearly explain the reason for the appeal.

  • Students may include additional information or documentation that was not previously shared or discussed during the initial review.

  • Additional medical documentation is not required, but may be submitted if it directly relates to the accommodation request or appeal rationale.

If a student anticipates difficulty meeting the above timelines due to gathering documentation or other external factors, they must contact OARS as soon as possible so that appropriate next steps can be discussed. Failure to meet the 14-business-day deadline or failure to communicate with OARS regarding timeline concerns may result in the appeal window closing.

Students may submit their intent to appeal, appeal letter, and any supporting documentation via email to oars@bethel.edu. Students will receive a written response to their appeal via email within 7 business days of the appeal letter submission date.

Contact OARS via email at oars@bethel.edu or call 651-638-6833 for questions about the appeal process.
