Student Assistants

The services of special student assistants are available to all faculty members in CAS, either on a personal or a departmental basis, to provide help for personal research, laboratory work and certain kinds of clerical assistance not generally available from the department’s administrative assistant. At the same time, there is a large concern to provide experiences that will inspire and uniquely educate promising prospective teachers and scholars. The faculty, primarily working as departments, has the responsibility for selecting the students involved and determining their respective salaries according to the level of service performed and within the prevailing wage scale established for campus student employment. Eligibility of students is determined by the basic provisions laid down for financial aid to students as well as by ability for the specific tasks involved. The program is administered by departmental chairpersons in CAS for their respective faculties. Costs of all student help, irrespective of the kind of service performed, are part of the departmental budgets. The departmental chairperson must clear all appointments of student assistants with the Director of Financial Aid.

In the Seminary both the faculty member and the student must make application through the office of the Dean for such an appointment in the spring of the year preceding the term of employment.
