Violent Acts or Threats
Overview
Bethel University seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment in which all members of the community are able to pursue their academic and personal development. In doing so, it reserves the right to implement a process, which may culminate in behavioral probation, suspension or dismissal of any student in circumstances that risk the wellbeing or safety of any member(s) of the Bethel community., or where physical safety is seriously threatened.
Violent Acts or Threats
The university will not tolerate acts, planned acts, or threats of violence against members of this community or retaliation against any individual reporting a threat or act of violence. This prohibition includes verbal, non-verbal, or written actions and all forms of intimidation, whether in-person or technology-mediated (e.g., social media post, text, audio or video recording, etc.), whether on or off campus premises, which results or has the potential of resulting in physical, psychological, or emotional harm, discomfort, or emotional distress to a member of the Bethel community.
Student Life staff and Safety and Security personnel may require students involved in violent acts or threats to leave campus immediately pending the investigation of the incident (In the event of an alleged sexual harassment or alleged discriminatory behavior, please see the Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Policy, or the Nondiscrimination and Harassment Policy).
All threats of violence should be reported to the Campus Violence Prevention Team. Reports can be made by calling 651-638-6000 or e-mailing threat-assessment@bethel.edu.
University Response
Violations of this policy, regardless of intent, may result in behavioral probation, zero tolerance, suspension or other disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the university.
In cases where a student is found responsible for allegations that involve threat, assault, harassment, or similar characteristics the University may require a mandatory assessment (psychological or forensic) to determine appropriate sanctions.
