Upon written request of a faculty member in the following cases, the institution, at its option, may grant a delay of up to one year of a review for initial tenure, renewal of tenure or an initial appointment to or renewal of nontenure continuing status:


•     an unpaid voluntary leave of absence of one semester or longer;
•     an illness of such severity affecting the faculty member or a family member such that the faculty member carries a reduced teaching load or elects a leave of absence under the Family and Medical Leave policy;
•     the birth of a child or the adoption of a child under six years of age

Faculty should apply to the Provost, who will consult with the appropriate dean and the chair of the appropriate committee.
