Paid holidays are provided to full-time employees and to part-time employees on a prorated basis. The following paid holidays are observed by Bethel University:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Good Friday
- Easter Monday
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Friday after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve Day
- Christmas Day
If Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day fall on a weekend, they may be rolled to a weekday, however, if Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, there is no additional provision for more days off the week after Christmas. Bethel may, in its sole discretion, allow other days off due to this unique situation, but does not guarantee that additional days will be granted.
If you are on any type of leave of absence when a Bethel paid holiday occurs, you are not paid for the holiday and do not accrue the holiday for use in the future.
Additional holidays may be declared during a calendar year. Additions to this schedule are determined on a case-by-case basis and communicated to employees by the Office of People and Culture or the President of the University.
If you work less than 12 months during the year, holidays that fall outside of the scheduled months of work are not paid.
If you are required to work on a holiday, you will accrue "floating holiday" hours equivalent to the number of hours worked on the holiday, to a maximum of eight hours per day. Floating holidays must be taken within a year of earning and must be scheduled with your supervisor. Normally, floating holiday time should be used before accrued vacation.
Holiday hours earned and used are tracked by the employee and supervisor. Non-exempt staff must report holiday time used on their timesheets.
Employees who terminate do not receive pay for unused floating holiday time.
