In July, Google started to enforce new storage limits. We have been granted an extension on compliance through November 2022. Beginning then, Bethel Google accounts will have a storage limit of 15GB for Students/Alumni/Retirees/Emeriti and 100GB for current employees and department accounts for all data in Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.
Before the end of October 2022, review your storage use and delete unnecessary files if needed:
- To review how much storage you use and delete large or unnecessary files in Drive, go to Drive Storage.
- To review and delete large or unnecessary files in shared drives, go to shared drives.
- To search for and delete large or unnecessary emails, follow the instructions for Gmail in Manage files in your Google Drive storage.
- Using an external hard drive to pull files off your Google Drive is also a good option. You can also use Google takeout to download your Google data for a backup if you need to delete large portions but aren't fully sure what might be needed.
- Students and Alumni who would like to transfer content to a personal gmail account, please follow these instructions.
By November 2022, you need to stay under your storage limit for your Drive, Gmail, and Photos data to keep access to these services. If your account runs out of storage, your services will be disrupted until you free up more space.
- Drive—You will not be able to sync or upload new files. You will not be able to create new files in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard. Until you reduce the amount of storage you use, neither you nor anyone else can edit or copy your affected files. Syncs stop between your computer's Google Drive folder and My Drive
- Photos—You will not be able to add more or back up existing photos or videos.
- Gmail–You will still be able to send and receive email.
If your account is not in compliance, ITS may need to delete it in order to free up the necessary space and we will begin communicating that during the month of November 2022.
