Backward Design is about planning with the end in mind. To design a focused course with the end in mind, ask yourself (in this order):

  1. What should students know or be able to do? (learning objectives)
  2. How will I know when they learn it? (assessments)
  3. What will students need to be successful? (resources and formative practice)
