Changes to Promote a Healthy Environment Across Campus

Air quality enhancements - Facilities Management has prepared a three-pronged plan to address COVID-19 preparedness for indoor air quality using recommendations from the CDC, MDH, and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE). The plan will assist Bethel by reducing the viral load with a 99% efficacy for several biological, airborne illnesses. The plan includes enhancements to our air flow and filtration system as well as the installation of bipolar ionization units to treat the ventilation air within our spaces and buildings with ions. Starting August 5, we will begin addressing air quality across all areas of our campus as we install a combination of the solutions above. As we install these solutions, it will require us to take systems offline for brief periods of time, which may temporarily impact air temperatures.

Campus cleaning - Facilities Management has also created a detailed cleaning protocol for our buildings. All lounges and common entry points will be cleaned regularly. Departments will be provided with sanitizing products for shared-use equipment so that they have the ability to disinfect areas, including the following, after each use:

  • Department reception areas
  • Break rooms and kitchenettes
  • Workrooms
  • Huddle and conference rooms
  • Training areas
  • Circulation areas
  • Shared computers, printers, or other technology
  • Other shared resources

All custodial staff and their supervisors have been provided refresher training on proper cleaning techniques, as well as background information on COVID-19. All cleaning products meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for eliminating COVID-19.

Signs - Expect to see signs across campus indicating things like where to stand when in line, what direction to travel in certain locations, and policies on face coverings and social distancing.

Hand sanitizer stations - These will be placed all around campus to give us regular opportunities to practice good hygiene. To help keep door handles clean, everyone is encouraged to sanitize their hands on the way into and out of all buildings.

Plastic dividers - These dividers, also known as sneeze guards, will be installed in various spaces around campus to protect those who have frequent contact with students and employees.

Food - All food provided for events will follow the Sodexo catering guidelines. At 3900, all food to be shared with a group must be purchased through Sodexo. At the Anderson Center, food may be delivered or picked up from restaurants where individual portions are pre-packaged. No food may be purchased or prepared by individuals and brought to campus with the purpose of sharing with others.
