Migrating To Jamf Management

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the process that ITS is requiring to switch our Mac management system to Jamf.

When the time comes to migrate your Employee Computer to Jamf, you will be asked to follow these simple instructions to allow the migration to take place.

Prepare Your Computer for Migration

Before your migration, please make sure that your computer is plugged into a power adapter, and if possible, please connect your computer to a Wired network connection.

Please make sure that you will be able to leave your computer connected, without putting it to sleep or restarting for up to an hour.

Completing Your Migration

When the migration is ready for your computer, you will see a notification like the one below. If you choose to close, or skip the notification, it will pop up again every minute, until the migration process has been initiated.

If you don't see the notification as expected...
  1. Open System Preferences by going to the Apple Menu in the top left, and choosing "System Preferences".

  2. Look for the item labeled "Profiles".

  3. If you DO NOT see an item labeled "Profiles", proceed to step 4.
    1. If you do see the "Profiles" pane, click on it to open the pane.
    2. Look for the old management profile in the list with the title "Enrollment Profile", that mentions "MicroMDM" when you click on it.
If that profile is there, please contact the Help Desk at 651.638.6500 to work with them to remove the old profile manually.
If that profile is not there, proceed to Step 4.
  4. Download and install this installer manually to bring up the expected notification: Setup-Enrollment-Change.dmg
  5. If the notification still won't show up, please contact the Help Desk at 651.638.6500 to work with them to migrate your computer manually.
  1. Click on the notification, to begin.

  2. The Profiles pane in the System Preferences app will open automatically and prompt you to "Allow Device Enrollment", click "Allow".

Some versions of macOS may require you to authenticate with an account that has admin rights on the computer. If so, enter your username and password that you use to log into the computer, and click "Enroll".

  3. Several profiles will show up in the list, including the "MDM Profile" shown below. The System Preferences window can now be closed by clicking the red 'X' at the top left.

  4. Within 5 minutes a window will pop up detailing the progress on a new list of configuration items that will need to run on your computer. Please read the notice and follow the instructions.

When the window closes, the migration and configuration will be complete.

If anything in this process doesn't go as shown, please contact the Help Desk at 651.638.6500, and they will provide further assistance.
