Poodll
Summary
Poodll is a tool that allows you to insert a variety of multimedia pieces directly into Moodle. The most common of these would be Moodle assignments that require either an audio or video submission and one-off audio or video pieces that are course specific. Poodll is not recommended for the creation of course lectures or other media that you hope to reuse in future courses.
Poodll requires the use of a microphone (audio) and/or webcam (audio/video) to complete the recording.
Poodll does not work well in Safari.
Details
Poodll can be utilized for assignments and anywhere there is a text editor. Common text editors in Moodle are forums, pages, and labels. The use of Poodll within forums would be a great replacement to Flipgrid.
Assignments
When creating an assignment, there is a new option of adding an "Online Poodll" submission in addition to the preexisting "File Submissions" and "Online Text". The Poodll Assignment Submission allows students to submit an audio or video file that is created inside of Moodle.
To use the Poodll Assignment submission:
- Create an assignment in Moodle
- In "Submission Type" you will need to check "Online Poodll"
- New options appear in the "Submission Type" section
- Poodll Rec. Type
- Video Recorder
- Audio Recorder
- Poodll Rec. Time Limit
Default is 0 minutes which give unlimited recording time
If you set this to a certain value the students will get a countdown timer as they are doing their recording
- Current Submission
- This is what the student will see when they are done recording
- You can leave this at the default setting
- Active
- Set this to yes
- Setting to no will not allow future submissions
- Poodll Rec. Type
- New options appear in the "Submission Type" section
- Adjust other assignment settings as needed
Forums
When creating a forum, there are no additional settings that you need to set. Poodll is now built in to every forum in Moodle. The most important part is to instruct students to do an audio, video, or text response. When instructing to do a video response, please include the link to this confluence article. This confluence article was built for the student perspective, so they understand how Poodll works when submitting a video forum response. I encourage you to check out this article for yourself as well. You can follow those instructions as well to create a forum post.
