Employee Responsibilities

Bethel seeks to attract and retain capable and motivated individuals who recognize the need to meet certain basic responsibilities. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those listed below. Some or all of these responsibilities may seem like common sense to you, but they are listed to help ensure that no one misunderstands what is expected from Bethel employees. It is your responsibility:

  • To review all communications provided to employees via eAnnouncements, Monday’s Memo, Friday Connects, email correspondence, etc. Employees are responsible for the information communicated through these channels.
  • To spend the workday effectively by performing the assigned tasks and demonstrating an awareness of priorities.
  • To spend the workday efficiently by performing each task quickly, safely, and well.
  • To be at work when scheduled to be working (to attend work regularly, not to arrive late, and not to leave early).
  • To notify your supervisor no later than your normal starting time if you are unable for any reason to report as scheduled.
  • To work when you are supposed to be working (for example, keeping personal phone calls to a minimum and not attending to personal matters during your work hours).
  • To cooperate with reasonable requests from coworkers.
  • To respect the confidentiality of sensitive information. Such information should not be repeated, discussed, or removed from your work area except for legitimate work reasons.
  • To respect the rights of others.
  • To respect the property of others and of Bethel University and to use Bethel property only for legitimate work purposes unless specific authorization has been received.
  • To abide by the expectations of A Covenant for Life Together/Lifestyle Expectations of Bethel University.

Conservation

Economy is especially important to a small, private University. Please do your part to conserve energy, supplies, and equipment. Turn off lights when they are not needed and use only those supplies needed to do the job. Also, be sure to report promptly to your supervisor or the Facilities Management Department any leaky faucets, machinery that needs repair, or any other matter requiring maintenance.
